Nippers – Tug o’ War as it should be!

November 15th, 2009 by Rob 1 comment »

It was a glorious Spring day in Sydney today. I have the pleasure every Sunday morning in the 6 months or so of spring/summer in Australia to take my four kids down to Clovelly Beach where they all participate in ‘Nippers’, which is in effect junior surf livesaving (although,  they learn a lot more about having (safe) fun in the sun and an awareness of the (ocean) water than they do about saving lives at this age).

Here are a few pics of Taylor trying her hardest in the Tug of War.

Game postponed due to severe weather conditions?

September 23rd, 2009 by Mishy 1 comment »

If you live in Sydney, you will have woken up to what looked like a scene out of a bad horror film – an eerie Mars like red glow shrouded the city!

Sydney Dust Storm - 8am, 23 Sept

Sydney Dust Storm - 8am, 23 Sept

Thankfully it’s lifting a little now, but asthma sufferers or anyone with lung or respiratory conditions, have been advised to stay indoors until the dust clears.

So, if you have an outdoor match scheduled for today, you might want to think about postponing (or moving it indoors!), as according to trusty news sources, the dust is expected to stay around until early afternoon.

For the latest weather updates that might impact your game today, check out Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) or if you’re on twitter follow the chatter via #sydneyduststorm

If your game/training session been postponed due to the severe weather conditions, what are you going to do instead?

And the next competition is….?

September 17th, 2009 by Mishy No comments »
Congrats!

Congrats to the Lightning Girls!

When the Lightning Girls (under 12) won the Reebok Top Regional Team Competition back in July 2009, we thought ‘Give-aways are a great! Let’s do another one soon!’….. so we did!

In conjunction with ACNT SportsPerform, we ran the ‘Match Day Massage’ competition.

The winners were pampered in between plays and all in all, it was a great day for everyone.

Since then, we have been busily brainstorming our next competition, but we would really love your input!

Not all mobiles are created equal.

September 16th, 2009 by Mishy No comments »

Are you keeping up with the latest mobile trends or are you (happily) lagging behind?

There’s so many ’smart phones’ to choose from – iPhone’s, Blackberry’s, Palms, Google’s Android – all with amazing features, but when it comes to making a phone call, are you more of a traditionalist?

If you’re a ’smart phone’ owner, do you miss the days when you could just hand someone your phone and they would know how to make a call? (A friend recently asked if he could use my phone to make a call, and was dumbfounded by the features on my iPhone – LOL and he works in IT).

So, what’s your mobile flavour?

Your team’s got style!

September 11th, 2009 by Mishy No comments »

Did you know that you can change the background on your team page?

To change your background, simply do the following:

  1. As a team administrator, go to your team and click ‘edit’
  2. Next to ‘background image’ click ‘browse’ and select the image you’d like to use as your background (click ’tile’ if you’d like you’re image to repeat so it fills the entire background)
  3. Set the main colour, main text colour, link colour and title colour
  4. Click ‘update’

Tip: If you don’t like the results, you can start again! Just click ‘edit team’, select ‘remove background image’ and ‘restore defaults’ then click ‘update’.

It’s just that easy!

We’ve also created some football backgrounds which you can easily add to your team.

End of Season Awards Presentations

September 10th, 2009 by Rob 1 comment »

So, Saturday was a busy sports day in the Antulov household – not for participation on the field, but for collecting the end-of-season awards and trophies.

All four of my little guys play weekend community sport – the two boys play Auskick, which is a kids version of Autstralian Rules Football (Aussie Rules) and the two girls play football (soccer).  It was a logistical challenge moving across different suburbs on different parts of the day to make sure we could get them all to their team presentations on time, and with at least one parent in attendance.  And, to top it off, we had two birthday parties to attend, too!

None of the four won or even played in a Grand Final.   All four learnt many sports and life skills during the season, and they had fun just kicking the ball around the park – priceless!

My ‘end of season’ football celebrations

September 6th, 2009 by nick 2 comments »

This year was my first year as a football dad and coach with my first son’s foray into the grassroots world of football!

It has been an experience to live and breath the football journey as both a junior small sided game (SSG) football coach and parent. I really felt the heavy dependence on volunteers at a local level and think it must change for the long term sustainability of sports across the board.

Check out my end of season post from the U6 Bexley North Bomber’s TeamZone on SportsPassion. Also, photos from our end of season team celebration here as well.

On a personal note, it was great to be able to be part of the boy’s sporting lives and seeing them adapt and grow.  I was proud to be part of that journey.

Go the Bombers! :)
